Validate an idea with a concept test
Put a design prototype (for example, a Figma link) in front of users with a shareable survey, and collect structured feedback before anything is built.

#When to use this
Your design team has two versions of a new checkout page in Figma, and you want to know which one users find clearer before a developer touches it. A concept test is a standalone survey page that shows your prototype next to your questions, such as "Which design do you find easier to use?" You share the link by email, chat or social media. There's no code and nothing changes on your live site.
#Before you start
- Concept tests are available with Wingify User Feedback on Pro and Enterprise plans.
- You have a publicly viewable prototype or design link, from Figma, Adobe XD, InVision, Marvel, or a hosted PNG/PDF mockup. Set sharing to anyone with the link can view.
- For Figma, open the share settings, choose Fit to screen or Fill screen, and hide the Figma UI before copying the link.
- Concept tests are optimized for desktop screens. Plan to send the link to people who will open it on a computer.
#Steps
#1. Start a concept test
Go to User Feedback > Concept Test and click Create. Concept tests are link surveys, so the Link platform is selected by default. Click Next.
Tip: To start from research-backed questions, go to User Feedback > Templates, select the Concept Test tab, choose a template and click Use Template. Replace every placeholder, such as [FEATURE_NAME], before publishing; they aren't filled in automatically.
#2. Add your questions and embed the prototype
On the Questions tab, add the questions you want to ask. In the question that should show the design, paste your prototype link in the Insert URL or media link here field. Wingify fetches the prototype and shows a preview in the builder. If the link is wrong, the preview field shows an error.
Build the rest as you would any survey:
- Use choice questions for preferences ("Which version do you prefer?") and text questions for the why.
- Set Required on questions you need answered, and use Flow Options to branch based on answers.
- Add a welcome message and a thank-you message to explain the purpose and close the loop.
Note: A concept test doesn't compare versions automatically. To compare two designs, embed both prototypes and ask comparative questions.
#3. Add a Matrix question to rate several aspects
Matrix is only available in link surveys, which makes it ideal for concept tests. Select Matrix as the question type, enter the question (for example, Rate the following aspects of the design), then define:
- Rows – the aspects, for example Clarity, Aesthetics, Ease of use.
- Columns – the scale, for example Poor, Average, Good, Excellent.
Define at least two values for both rows and columns.
#4. Customize the page
On the Design tab, adjust the theme and branding. To personalize the page, scroll to Image customization, toggle on Show background image and upload an image. The split layout (prototype on one side, questions on the other) is fixed.
#5. Set delivery options
On Advanced Options, you can:
- Limit the total number of responses (daily limits aren't available for link surveys).
- Choose a repeat behavior such as Display only once.
- Enable Scheduling to open and close the test automatically.
- Set a Survey Redirect URL to send respondents to a page after they submit, for example a thank-you or offer page.
#6. Launch and share the link
Click Start Now. Wingify generates a unique URL for the concept test. Share it through email, messaging apps, social media or wherever your audience is. Unlike website surveys, nothing pops up on your site; people must open the link.
#Check that it worked
Copy the link and open it in a private or incognito window. Check that the page loads, the prototype renders and is interactive, and the questions appear beside it. Submit a test response, then open the concept test from User Feedback > Concept Test and confirm the response appears. The list shows Displayed, Attempted and Completed counts for each test.
#Common questions
The prototype doesn't load. What's wrong? The design link is almost always restricted. Set it to anyone with the link can view and paste it again.
The Figma prototype looks tiny or shows extra toolbars. Update the Figma share settings to hide the UI and use Fit to screen or Fill screen, then copy the link again.
Can I run several concept tests at once? Yes. Each test has its own link and questions, so they don't interfere with each other.
Can I password-protect the link? No. Control who responds by sharing the link only with your intended audience.
Does a paused test still collect responses? No. When the campaign is paused, the link stops accepting new responses.
