Generate test ideas with Wingz

Scan a page or describe a goal to get AI-generated A/B testing ideas, then save the best ones as hypotheses or turn them into draft campaigns in one click.

#When to use this

Your product page has low engagement and you're not sure what to test next. Ideas (under Plan) scans the page with Wingz, Wingify's AI, and proposes concrete A/B testing ideas, each with a hypothesis, the change to make, and the CRO principle behind it. You can generate ideas for a page (with simulated interactions such as closing a pop-up) or for a specific goal, such as "Increase clicks on the Request Demo CTA".

#Before you start

• Ideas is available on all plans for Web Experimentation, Web Personalization and Web Rollout.
• You need admin-level access to generate ideas.
• The page must be publicly reachable. If you use Cloudflare or another firewall, whitelist requests whose user-agent contains "VWO" before scanning.

#Steps

#1. Open Ideas

Go to Plan > Ideas. If you haven't generated ideas yet, the page may be empty.

#2. Scan a page

Click New URL Scan (or enter a URL in Showing ideas for and click Add this url). In the New URL Scan panel, set:

• URL: the full page URL.
• Device: desktop or mobile view; ideas are specific to the device.
• Add Goal (optional): for example, "Improve user engagement".
• Pre-configure interactions (optional): actions to perform before the scan, such as Click on element, Hover or Wait. Click Add another interaction to chain them.

Click Save & Generate Ideas. Generation usually takes 20-30 seconds, up to a minute for complex pages.

#3. Or generate ideas for a goal

With a URL selected in Showing ideas for, pick one of the suggested goals at the bottom of the page (click the refresh icon for more) or type your own. Click the wand icon to get three refined versions of your prompt, choose one and click Apply Prompt. Then click Generate Idea.

To change how the current page is scanned (for example, to add a missing click), click Configure Scan.

#4. Review and triage the ideas

Click an idea card to expand it and see its Hypothesis, Actionable change and Based on principle. Then:

• Click the star to keep promising ideas, and select Show only starred to filter them.
• Delete ideas that aren't relevant or feasible.
• Use thumbs up or down to rate their usefulness.

#5. Save an idea as a hypothesis

For complex changes (custom widgets, restructured sections), expand the idea and click Add to Wingify hypothesis. The Create Hypothesis form is pre-filled; review it and click Create. The idea gets an Added to Hypothesis label and appears in Plan > Hypotheses.

#6. Or create a campaign with One-Click Setup

For simple changes (text, CTA tweaks), click One-Click Setup via Wingz. In Review One-Click Setup, click Edit Configuration to adjust pages, audience or goals (in plain language if you like), or Reset to go back to the suggestion. Click Continue with Wingz.

The Wingify Editor opens in a new tab while Wingz configures pages, identifies metrics and generates the variation. Review the changes and click Accept all & Save. You're taken to the new campaign's summary.

#Check that it worked

• Campaigns created this way are always saved as drafts. Review the Configuration summary (pages, targeting, metrics, variation) and start the test yourself.
• On the Ideas page, the idea shows a campaign-linked label; expand it and click View campaign details to open the campaign.
• If setup stopped halfway, the idea card shows Resume with Editor Wingz so you can finish in the editor.

#Common questions

Why isn't One-Click Setup available for every idea? It's offered for straightforward changes, such as text or CTA tweaks. Ideas that need structural changes or custom code use the Add to Wingify hypothesis flow instead.

The scan failed with "page not found" or "cannot connect". What now? Check the URL and make sure your firewall allows Wingify's scanner. For pages behind a login or paywall, use the Wingify Chrome plugin to generate ideas.

What's the difference between Configure Scan and New URL Scan? Both open the same panel. Use New URL Scan for a different page, and Configure Scan to edit the interactions for the page currently loaded.

If I delete an idea, is its hypothesis deleted too? No. Deleting an idea doesn't remove a hypothesis created from it, and deleting that hypothesis doesn't remove the idea.
